7xxx aluminum alloy is widely used in aerospace, so it is also called aviation aluminum. It is relatively expensive and is often used in some high-end electronic products. In addition to the conventional strength and corrosion performance requirements, aircraft aluminum sheets also have high requirements for fatigue and crack propagation resistance.

In key models such as domestic large aircraft and advanced fighters, thick plates, profiles, forgings and other products of 7075, 7050, 7150, 7055, 7085 and 7475 aluminum are widely used in fuselage frame beams, long girders, wing wall panels, ribs, butt joints and other key load-bearing structural parts in aircraft. Structural parts made of such materials account for 40% to 70% of the total weight of the aircraft structure.

Reasonable deformation heat treatment can make aluminum alloy obtain higher strength, toughness and corrosion resistance. The deformation heat treatment process was proposed as early as 1981 and is mainly used in aerospace structural alloys. The deformation heat treatment has a significant effect on improving the mechanical properties of 7050 and 7475 alloys.

Aircraft design not only needs to consider the static strength and corrosion stress of the material, but also puts forward higher requirements for fracture toughness. Under the trend of this demand condition, the United States took the lead in using high-purity aluminum ingots to process and prepare aluminum alloy, strictly controlling the content of impurities such as Fe and Si during the processing process, and successfully developed high-strength 7050 aluminum sheet.

7050 aluminum plate is a high-strength heat-treatable alloy with extremely high strength and resistance to exfoliation corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. 7075 aluminum is mainly used to manufacture aircraft structures and other high-stress structural parts that require high strength and corrosion resistance, such as aircraft upper and lower wing panels, stringers, etc.

7050 aluminum alloy is a high-purity super-hard aluminum with low content of impurities Fe and Si and low content of Mn. 7050 alloy has excellent comprehensive properties such as high fracture toughness, high fatigue strength, good damage tolerance and good stress corrosion resistance while maintaining higher strength. When the temperature rises, the strength of 7050 alloy decreases, so the long-term use temperature should not exceed 125℃.
