7055 Aluminum was successfully developed by Alcoa in 1991. It is currently the most highly alloyed 7xxx aluminum alloy. The main varieties are 7055-T7751 thick plates and 7055-T77511 extrusions.
7055 aluminum alloy is heat treatable wrought aluminum alloy. It has high ultimate tensile strength value of 593 MPa. 7055 aluminum is chiefly used in the aerospace sector and other high strength requirement areas.
7075 aircraft aluminum has the highest strength among the most common aluminum alloys, which is suitable for aircraft frames and high-strength accessories. It can not be welded and its corrosion resistance is quite poor.
Many parts manufactured by CNC cutting use 7075 alloy. Zinc is its main alloying element and a little magnesium alloy can make the material heat-treated to achieve very high strength.
Compared with 7150 aluminum alloy, the tensile and compressive strength of 7055 aluminum alloy gets improved while maintaining some important properties such as fracture toughness and corrosion resistance.
On the basis of 7001 aluminum alloy, 7049 aluminum reduces the content of alloying elements Cu and Cr, increases the ratio of Zn/Mg, and reduces the content of Fe and Si impurities. It is mainly used to produce forgings and extrusions in the T73 temper. While its strength is not lower than 7075 aluminum plate, the stress corrosion crack growth rate is much lower than that of 7075-T651 aluminum plate.
